The Sony STR-DG520 provides powerful HDMI connectivity that allows for uncompressed 1080p video to pass through directly to your HDMI capable television. Besides that, it also has Dolby Digital Prologic II/ DTS decoding as well as is optimized for HD sources. Other than that the Sony STR-DG520 also as AM/ FM tuner with RDS and 30 station pre-set, with DCAC one-push automatic sound set-up for flexible speaker placement and optimum sound quality. In addition to that, the Sony STR-DG520 also comes with Sony’s DIGITAL MEDIA PORT connector which gives it the possibility to connect a digital media port to release digital music stored on your PC, mp3 player or Bluetooth mobile phone. Other features include A/V sync for perfect sound and image synchronisation with flat panel TVs, digital cinema sound for a true “at the movies” experience, and 2 HDMI inputs. In general, the Sony STR-DG520 has a sleep timer and a nickel pin jack. In terms of its tuner, it has RDS with 30 preset FM/ AM channel, station name, auto tuning and direct tuning (RM). Decoding formats include Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby Prologic II, Dolby Dual Mono and 96k/ 24 bit PCM.
See lessI purchased and installed the DG-520 about 6 months ago and its proved to be an excellent amplifier. I have build a new extension as an extra lounge and installed a cinema-surround sound system as the centre piece, so the verstility of the DG-520 has really paid off. The full system comprises of : Panasonic TH-37PX80B 37" Plamsa TV, Panasonic DVD-S511 and Yamaha NS-P110 5.1 speaker system. I have also used the amplifier with a Sony NS700V DVD player. This unit provides very nice surround sound effects. It took some time with the owners manual to get everything set up with the other components of my system but it was worth the effort. Read more
I want to note that the HDMI pass thru is not so useless without a Sony BR DVD Player and a Sony Bravia TV. So, if you have all sony electronics wich are "Bravia Sync" compatible, then the HDMI pass thru becomes extremely useful as a switching device. Without that you will be needed pressing several buttons on three (it is minimum) remote controls to make it all work together. The Dolby 5.1 sounds works not bad as for a $160.0 receiver. I bought this product(Sony STR-DG520), it arrived on time, No Damage, Complete, and Easy to set-up, giving that I'm not an electronics technician. I took it one step at a time. The given instructions were simple enough to follow. Knowing that I have a last of the Sony tube type TV's the back panel was cut and dry.
